My Doberman Pinscher's Diarrhea Problems

What is diarrhea?

this is describe as having frequent loose or liquid consistency of bowel moments. It is usually last for days or weeks. If not taken seriously it can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.


What causes diarrhea in dogs?

1. Change in usual diet
    - This is when you abruptly change your pets usual diet.

2. Food intolerance
    - giving foods that the tummy is not used to or they might have allergies of it

3. Ingestion of

• garbage - sometimes they eat spoiled foods or leftover foods
• poisonous substances- usually poisonous plants in your backyard
• foreign bodies-  plastic bags, tissues, small toys etc.

4. Bacterial or viral infection
   - like Parvo virus

5. Parasitic infection

My Experience

Last last week, my two Doberman Pinscher; Bruno (9 years old) and Ginger (7months old)  had diarrhea problems that last for a couple of days. It started with soft poops then it becomes liquid then they are squirting poops as days passed. The first thing that comes on my mind was "..O.M.G. Ginger might again had the Parvo virus and that she might contaminated Bruno by it...". But Ginger's doctor assure me that she will no longer have the parvo virus because she already been immune of the virus and she already completed the shots needed to prevent having it. 

 

 

So what I did was I stop giving my dogs the dog food that I bought for them which is the B-pro. That might caused their diarrhea. Since I started giving them that dog food they started having diarrhea. I change my dog's diet to rice and liver spread.   In this way, their poops will somehow lessen the liquid consistency. Then I gave them a medicine of Metronidazole which is for antibiotics/ antiprotozoal and can be used for antidiarrheal for dogs/cats. So I gave them this medicine for 3 times a day for 5 days. 

 

After 3 days, from liquid poops it became semi solid consistency and they stop having squirts. You can see the gradual effect of the medicine. I make sure that they are hydrated and that there crates are clean. Then After 5 days giving the medicine the consistency of their poops are normal. I start giving them new batch of dog foods. But I don't abruptly give them big portions of it instead I try to give them small portions of it so that their tummy will not get upset.

What is Parvo Virus?
is a contagious virus mainly affecting dogs all ages, but mostly occurs 6-30 weeks of age. Type of breeds usually attacked of this virus are the Doberman Pinscher and Rottweiler which is still unknown why they are more susceptible.

Signs and Symptoms
- depression
-vomiting
-diarrhea which is profuse and contains mucus or with blood
-dehydration

Treatment
 -With this disease requires intensive veterinarian management and monitoring.
- For mild cases, the dehydration and electrolyte imbalance are treated
-  Intravenous (IV) fluids are given
- Antibiotics are also given to prevent bacterial complication
- For severe cases, blood transfusion is needed

Chances of survival
The dog dies because of dehydration, electrolyte imbalance and blood loss if not treated immediately.

My Experience

Not so long ago my Doberman Pinscher, named Ginger had Parvo. She was 2 months and 21 weeks old back then.   The first thing we noticed was she keeps having liquid poops. I didn't  take it seriously because I thought It might just be a food problem that her stomach not use to digest. So I try not to give her puppy food and gave her instead a rice with milk.

The next day, she vomited many times and gave her immediately water. But well my dog don't drink just plain water she didn't drink the water that I gave her so I gave her milk which she really likes. She's really thirsty and had 3 bowls emptied. My mom tells me that we should wait maybe she's still sensitive in everything she intakes. 

 

After that, things went well. She seems normal. She have good appetite and playful as ever. She did not vomit that day nor had liquid poops. So we thought that the food is the problem so we make sure she had clean water, milk and food when I serve it to her. 

 

The next day, as I approach her she seems dehydrated and lethargic. The reason why, was the whole day and night she had liquid poops and vomited many times. That night me and my brother decided to take her to the vet because her poops are colored red which is disturbing. She's been having bloody liquid poops, continuous to vomit and lethargic at the same time.   

 

The doctor  advised us to confine her in his clinic for strict monitoring and invasive treatment. He told us that my dog has Parvo virus.  He ask us If she had shots or vaccines for parvo virus prevention and told him that she had shots for that. We showed our records to him and said she might not had proper vaccination. Because the documentations of the vaccination was not complete.

 

You see Ginger, my dog Doberman Pincher we bought her in the net to be specific in the sulit.com website.  We meet up and had transaction with them and ask them if she had shots already and told us she had. They gave us this folded index card with stickers on it saying that she had shots already. 

 

This is the record that the person in the net gave us. 

 

And the doctor in the vet told us the possibilities that we might forgot to follow up for her next vaccination last October  and November 2. Which is also our fault. So Ginger confined for 6 days and we decided to treat her home because it's too expensive. Were not that rich and my mom said that we might broke if we continue to let her stay in the clinic.

  

 

So as you can see below we spend 4,300php for her stay in the clinic.

  

My Home Treatment

 

We take her home the next day and ask the doctor if he can remain the dextrose line in her leg. That I will monitor her fluid intake and drops per minute of her dextrose. Then he let me do it and teach me how to put an IV on a dog.  Besides I'm a registered nurse and a certified IV therapist in human though so he gave me tips and techniques.

 

As you can see she was so thin. Poor Ginger.


The next day, Ginger been very quite. She's not barking nor standing. She looks so weak. I decided to remove her IV line because it's out of line already. She had infiltration on her right leg. Infiltration means the tip of the catheter slips of the vein that the fluid unintendedly infuses into the tissues surrounding the venipuncture site causing it to swell. So what I did was I let her leg elevated so the fluid will flow  back into the rest of her body. Then after few hours her swelled leg subsided.

I tried to search in the internet how to treat dogs with parvo at home. There are many websites that gives informative treatments how you should handle or manage a dog with parvo. The key is "patience" in taking care of your precious pet.

You need to be patient because you need to continues to take care your pet day and night. You should give her water every now and then in order to be hydrated.   What I do  was I flushed fluids on Ginger gums on the cheek sides in order to her to be hydrated. I used syringe and aspirate water and flush her gums on the cheek sides and teeth only. I just always make sure that her gums are always wet and I do it every minute. I don't forced feed her of food nor forced her to give fluids because that's dangerous. She might aspirate ( forced fluid on lungs) If you force something on your pet might die.

I always updated Ginger's doctor by texting him on what management I do to ginger and he gives approval also tips regarding what should I give her. He also prescribed Metronidazole which is an antibiotic/ antiprotizoal for 3 times a day for 1 week. So this medication is given for dogs and cats for it is used for antidiarrheal medication to treat inflammation of the large intestine. What I noticed after taking 3 days for 3 times of metronidazole Ginger's poop become yellowish. There's no blood on her poop anymore though the consistency of her poop was still liquid.

I tried to feed her with liver spread because she lost a lot of blood she might need some iron on her body. So what I did was I put small amount of liver spread on her bowl. She ate it. I only give her small amounts of liver spread because her stomach was still sensitive to occupy big amount of food which she might throw it up. What I noticed was her vomits lessen. I only give her small frequent meals of liver spread.

Then after a week doing patiently of the things that I mentioned above I see improvement on her. She starts to bark. She seems hydrated. Her poop becomes semi solid which is yellowish in color. She starts to walk and jumping around her crate. Though she not fully recovered yet but I see hope that she can surpass this disease.

I added rice on her diet which is rice and liver spread that I mixed together. Though I continue to give her small frequent meals. She started to drink on her own but I only put small amount fluids on her bowl same goes for the concept of small frequent applied for her fluids.

After 2 weeks of consistent home treatment of Ginger she finally recovers!! Her poops becomes solid yellow. You can see that her weight becomes normal. I tried to give her big amount of meals and the result was great!!! She did not throw up. She's really looks happy, playful and wants to go out of her crate but her doctor said that she's not yet allowed to go out. She's still susceptible for having parvo because she don't have a complete vaccination yet. So her doctor texted me that she can have her shots after a week and that she can go back to her dog foods but in small amounts until her stomach can get used to it.
 

 

So her doctor gave her a new vaccination booklet. I always assure that her vaccination scheduled is on time.

 

So these are the vaccination records of Ginger. The first picture above was her old record and the 2nd picture was her new record. So as you can see the Feb date was empty because Ginger's doctor accidentally writes on the next page of her booklet instead of this page. 


As you can see the documents are complete with the doctor's signature on her new vaccination booklet and while on the top picture was her old document of her shots that was on index card and has incomplete information.



            Now Ginger is doing great!! She's happy, playful and loving as ever. She's now 7 months old. And hopefully She becomes a healthy dog until she have babies and gets old someday.  I f you are a pet lover like me and really loves your pet you can do anything for your dog's sake as long as you have the patience in you in taking take of your baby dog everything is impossible I assure!!! <3

My Review on Nivea Visage: White Sparkling White Pore Minimizer

I've been searching of a good product to lighten my dark spots due to pimple scars. I come across in section of whitening cream of NIVEA in Watsons. Good thing it is in sample pack I don't need to buy the big tub.    

 

 

Nivea Visage white sparkling white- is a pore minimizer age control day cream. it has multi-vitamins & skin nutrients with UVA/ UVB protection. It claims to repair dull and damage skin and reduces dark spots and uneven pigmentation in the deeper layers of the skin while effectively tightening pores.   

 

My Experience

I used this as my make up base.  First time I used this my face becomes super greasy and shiny. I know I have an oily face type but this makes my face super greasy. After 4 hours putting this my friends noticed that they can fry some eggs on my face due to the visible greasiness effect. My friends keep pointing out how oily my face becomes which is very embarrassing on my part.

 

 I still continue using it but not in daytime because of what happened. I used it before I go to sleep, hoping that the whitening and the tightening pore thingy will effect if I used it for a week. But unfortunately I'm wrong. I had breakouts within 4 days using it. Then I totally stopped using this. I don't see any pores tighten. Though my dark spots somehow lighten a little. But my pimple increases which is sad (huhu) because I'm in the middle of recovering from massive pimples/acnes.   

Likes:
Scent- it has a mild floral scent which I really like.
Consistency- it has a creamy consistency
Budget friendly- the sample pack costs 20php only


Dislikes:
Packaging- quite messy, though it is just a sample pack but there are sample pack that have tube type at the corner of the sachet
Greasy effect on my face
Breakouts problem after using it


Recommendations:
 I wont recommend this with an oily, sensitive  and easily prone acne face type like me.

 I bought this box of Asian Secrets in Mercury Drugs. I've been using these product and became their loyal consumer because of its really nice scent and good effect on my skin.

Pond's flawless white BB cream Review

 

So this is my first BB cream I ever used and I've been intrigue in this type of cream. I'm always afraid to used any kind of product on my face because I have a prone acne face. I would like to share to you ladies my experience using this product. So let's get started.

 

 

 

I bought it in Watsons for 349php so I thought why not give it a try. This has a whitening Expert BB cream with a SPF 30 + +. It claims that It helps provide effortless natural bare-faced look. Best for skin type like oily skin, dull looking, unbalanced skin, dry skin with fine wrinkle fine lines, skin with freckles and blemishes, with pore problems, tired skin and as well all skin types.   

 

First impression:

 

Packaging:  I really like the girly packaging with a hot pink color touch. It has a very handy tube which not messy to use.

 

Shade: It has a one tone color shade. Too bad that it is not suited for dark skin tone.

 

Scent: It has a floral smell and fade after applying it.

 

Consistency: It has a dewy feeling after applying it.

 

Coverage: It gives a  good coverage. Covering all my acne scars and impurities.

 

Lasting Effect: it lasts for 4 hours only and my face starts to get greasy.  

 

 

Likes:

 

- Very handy

- very Affordable

- it has floral scent

- it gives good coverage

 

Dislike

- it has itchy feeling after applying

- makes my face more greasy look

- lasts for 4 hours for oily face like me

- I end up having breakouts after using it

 

Will I purchase it again?

Eyeliner Review : Ever bilena & Nichido

 

Hi there astonishing ladies~

I would like to share to you all my review of eyeliners from Ever bilena and Nichido.



 

So my friend gave me these Ever bilena as a gift and this type of local brand is really famous here in the Philippines for it's cheap cosmetics. 

 

 

Ever Bilena Pro Eyecolor Mascara/Eyeliner - It has a liquid eyeliner and a mascara each end of the tube which was very handy. I like the package of it because it is easy to use and it's not bulky when I put it on my purse.

 

Another eyeliner that I have was a pencil eyeliner from Nichido.

 

 

Nichido pencil eyeliner- It is a water resistance eyeliner. I've been using this for quite some time now. I like the packing of it which is handy that you can use anytime or on the go. I really prefer this than the Ever bilena.

 

So I made a swatch for the two eyeliners so that you can see why I much prefer the Nichido eyeliner than the Ever bilena.

 

 

The Ever Bilena Pro eye color liquid eyeliner has a glossy finish while the Nichido pencil eyeliner has a very pigmented color finish. 

 

 

I try to rub it to see the consistency and the lasting effect of the two products. As you can see the Ever bilena crumbled which is very messy to look at. While the Nichido eyeliner somehow has a little pigmented line left which is a good thing.  

 

I really recommend the Nichido eyeliner it's a 5/5 rating for me. Will I purchase it again? uhmm. I don't think so. I want to try other product but for those want a cheap eyeliner this is really a plus.

If you read my review about Garnier Multi action scrub that I've been using, the oiliness of my face lessen and my mom bothered about it and she keep telling me to put some moisturizer on my face even though I have an oily face. You see, I never put moisturizer on my face because I'm too afraid that my face will get more greasy. So this is the first time I'll try a moisturizer, good thing that it's in sachet and in promo for 1 buy 1 take 1. But the thing that bothers me is I don't know what's the difference in "facial lotion and a facial moisturizer"?  anyway I'll make a review about these two product next time.

I'm surprised so I tell the lady that I would like to buy 5 boxes of that and she told me that there's only 4 boxes left because many customers are buying this product. They told me that the promo will last until March 12 only nationwide  and advise me to buy Gluta- C in other branch of Watsons that might have a stock of this product. Good thing I asked and know about the promo thingy. So I'm planning to buy another batch of this product again. I'll be having a review of this product too just to be sure of it's wonder.
